Got schooled by a homeowner on a job in Phoenix last month

I was installing some plush carpet in a new build near Scottsdale and the owner came by to check on progress. I had my seams running the standard way, how I always do, and he asked why I wasn't running them perpendicular to the windows. I told him that's just how I was taught and he pulled out this whole explainer about how the light hits it differently and makes seams less visible. I mean, I thought I knew my stuff after 8 years, but I actually tested his idea on a scrap piece and he was right. It took me a bit more time to adjust my layout but the final look was way cleaner. Has anyone else had a customer call them out on a basic method and it actually improved your work?

Buddy of mine had a painter show him how to cut in a window.

Yeah I picked up a trick from a drywall guy once that saved me tons of time. Just gotta keep your brush at the right angle and take it slow.
