Can we talk about how much harder seam tape was 20 years ago?

I remember cutting seam tape with a utility knife and a straight edge back in 2003, and it always seemed to curl up or stick to itself. Now these pre-cut tapes with the peel-off backing are everywhere, make the job a lot faster. What did you use to do that you still do the old way out of habit?

You know, I used to be all about the old way, cutting my own tape with a razor and a straight edge. I figured it was just how it was done, and those pre-cut strips were a waste of money. But then I helped a friend with their basement and they had that peel-off backing stuff... and I was wrong. It's just so much more consistent, no curling or fighting with it at all. I still catch myself reaching for the utility knife out of habit sometimes, but the modern stuff really changed my mind on the whole thing. Makes me wonder why I fought it for so long.

Is drywall tape really a thing people have strong feelings about? I mean, it sticks to the wall and keeps mud out of the cracks, that's pretty much it. Seems like you're overthinking a $5 roll of sticky paper.
