10 years of carpet stretching wrong and I just figured it out
I was at a job in Phoenix last week and the homeowner showed me a ripple he hated. I went to stretch it out and he said 'you're pulling from the wrong side aren't you?' and suddenly it clicked that I had been stretching against the tack strip grain my whole career. How long did it take you to realize you were doing a basic step backwards?

Man I felt this. It took me 8 years and a pissed off customer in Flagstaff to realize I was doing the same thing. I was always stretching toward the wall instead of away from it. Felt like such a dumbass when it finally clicked.

Had a similar moment at a traffic light in Phoenix... sat through three full cycles cause I was watching the wrong signal. Felt like a complete idiot when the guy behind me laid on the horn.
