Warning: The new library in Springfield has a hidden detail in the trim work
I was checking out the new public library in Springfield yesterday and noticed something in the main reading room. The crown molding has a tiny, carved bevel on the bottom edge that catches the light just right. It's maybe an eighth of an inch deep, but it makes the whole ceiling line look way sharper. I asked one of the guys on site and he said they used a custom router bit to get that clean shadow line. Has anyone else seen a small detail like that make a big difference in a room?

The Springfield library spent extra on a custom router bit for an eighth-inch shadow line. That's taxpayer money on a detail nobody will notice after a week. My whole house has flat trim and it looks fine, it just holds the wall and floor together. People get too hung up on this stuff when the building itself is what matters.

My old apartment had baseboards that were basically just flat planks. Then I stayed at a friend's place where they had this little rounded top edge, a quarter inch maybe. It sounds dumb but it made the whole room feel finished, like someone actually cared. My place just felt cheap after that. It's wild how a tiny strip of wood can give you a complex.

Wait, they were just flat? No edge at all? That's actually crazy. I've seen cheap baseboards before but that sounds like they just slapped up some leftover wood. No wonder it made you feel weird, that's like the builder gave up halfway through. Honestly, it's the little stuff that shows if someone actually tried.
