Update: An old guy at the lumberyard in Boise told me my miter cuts were 'close enough for government work' and it made me redo the whole frame.

He said it while I was loading some pine, and that phrase stuck with me for years because it called out a lazy habit I didn't even know I had. Has anyone else had a simple comment from a stranger completely change how you approach a basic task?

What kind of frame were you building?

Just a little picture frame for my mom. Nothing too wild, you know?

My uncle Frank watched me rush through sanding a table leg once and just said, "You're gonna feel that rough spot every time you walk by." Now I run my hand over the whole piece before calling it done, even if my eyes say it's fine. That one sentence made me connect the work to how it's actually used. It's crazy how a few words from someone who knows their stuff can flip a switch in your head.
