Shoutout to my foreman who insisted on a 3/4 inch subfloor for that kitchen remodel

I thought 5/8 would be fine to save the client a few bucks, but after the tile guy came through last week, not a single crack or squeak... has anyone else had a spec save their bacon like that?

Yeah, that extra plywood makes all the difference. I had a similar thing with a spec for blocking under a bathroom floor. Seemed like overkill until the plumber was crawling all over it. Not a single groan from the floor.

Wait, you were gonna use 5/8 on a tile floor? That’s wild... I’ve seen tile crack on thicker stuff than that. Your foreman basically saved you from a callback nightmare. Good on him for sticking to his guns.

Honestly, that extra quarter inch is like cheap insurance. You grumble about the cost for maybe an hour while you're hauling the sheets, and then you forget about it for the next twenty years while the floor just sits there being quiet and solid. Meanwhile, going too thin is the gift that keeps on giving, a new squeak every time the seasons change. Your foreman was just saving you from a lifetime of those little regrets.
