Noticed most guys at our shop use way too many nails on baseboard installs
I was watching a trim carpenter from the 80s do a 12-foot run with 6 nails total and it held perfectly, so why are people throwing 10 or 12 on every piece? Has anyone else cut back on their nail count and seen better results?

Man, you're speaking my language... saw an old timer do a 16 footer with just 8 nails and it sat there for years without a single gap. I started cutting back myself after that, now I do maybe 7 or 8 on a 12-foot run and glue the back. The key is hitting the studs right and making sure your miters are tight. These guys hammering nails every 4 inches are just making more holes to fill, drives me nuts watching it.

Charlie saw that old timer too and it changed how I work. I cut my nail count way back and the joints actually look cleaner with less patching.
