My framing square was off by 1/16" and it took a botched doorway in Austin to catch it
Found out after 12 years of using the same square that a tiny ding on the corner throws every 90-degree mark, so now I'm split between checking it against a known straight edge every Monday or just buying a new one, which side are you on for a tool that's been reliable this long?

Whoa, okay, that ding has been lying to you for over a decade. But here's the thing nobody's brought up yet: that square is basically a part of your muscle memory now. If you swap it out for a brand new one, your hands might overcompensate for a mistake that isn't there anymore, and you'll second-guess every cut for a month. I'd say keep it, but only if you're willing to check it every single Monday like you said. If you're not actually going to do that, then just get a new one, because a cheap square you trust beats a good one you don't.

check it every single Monday" really got me. You actually think you're gonna remember that past the first week? I've got a tape measure in my truck that's been off by a quarter inch since 2019 and I still grab it every time. That Monday plan is wishful thinking at best, and you know it. The muscle memory thing is real though, I'll give you that. But at some point you gotta ask yourself if you're keeping that square out of skill or just plain stubbornness. New one's like twenty bucks, just bite the bullet and save yourself the headache.
