My 25 year old bench vise finally let go mid project on Tuesday
The jaw snapped clean off while I was clamping a red oak rail, scared the heck out of me. Took it to a welder down on 4th Street and he brazed it back for $40, should hold for light work but I'm not trusting it for anything heavy again. Any of you still running an old vise you patched, or did you just bite the bullet and buy new?
Patched mine with a piece of angle iron and some bolts after the same thing happened. That was six years ago and it is still holding, but I keep it for small stuff only now. Picked up a used Wilton at a flea market for cheap and save the old one for when I need a second set of hands.
