Had to choose between softwood and hardwood for a client's shelves in Austin
Client wanted shelves for their living room and I had to pick clear pine or red oak. Pine was way cheaper at $3 a board foot but oak had that grain they wanted. I went with oak and the staining took forever but they tipped me $50 extra after seeing the final look. Anyone else ever get stuck between budget and what a client really wants?

@oliver719 that's what got me too honestly... I used to just push for whatever was easiest on my wallet but seeing how happy the client was with the oak changed my whole approach. The extra work on the stain was worth it for that reaction.
