Saw a hiring manager's checklist at a coffee shop in Austin, it was brutal
I was grabbing a latte near UT last Tuesday and this recruiter left her binder open on the table. Her page had a star system for each resume, and one guy got a single star because his cover letter mentioned 'passionate' twice. She wrote 'fluff' next to it in red pen. Do hiring folks really toss candidates that fast over word choice?

Man, that tracks completely. I learned the hard way that recruiters spend like 30 seconds max, so I always tell people to cut every fancy word and just hit the key stuff they can scan fast.
