Dropped $600 on a "certified" resume writer and got back the same bullet points I sent them
Back in March I paid a resume service $600 because they promised a total rewrite in 5 business days. What came back was my own bullet points with a few words swapped out, plus a cover letter template I could have pulled off any free site. I asked for a redo and the lady on the phone told me revisions cost extra, at $75 an hour. I ended up rewriting the whole thing myself in two evenings and got three callbacks the next week. Has anyone actually paid for a resume service and felt like it was worth the money?
Did you actually ask them what "total rewrite" meant before you paid? I get that $600 feels like a lot for what you got, but a resume writer is mostly fixing how things read, not inventing new experience you never had. The words on your resume are your words, and no writer can make up jobs or numbers for you. The $75 an hour for changes does seem steep though, I'll give you that.
