Used to start every interview with my whole work history. Now I just open with one specific project.

Back in 2018 at a tech fair in Austin I would rattle off every job since college. Wasted 10 minutes before anyone cared. Why do hiring managers want a novel when they just need the headline?

The headline approach works way better because hiring managers skim more than people realize. They have a stack of resumes and maybe five minutes per person. Giving them the most interesting thing right up front makes them lean in instead of zone out. The whole work history stuff is really just noise until they know you can do the job.

My buddy tried that at a job fair in San Jose last year, started with his whole resume and the recruiter literally yawned in his face. Switched to leading with one big project and got three callbacks the next week.
