Unpopular opinion: My old boss in Atlanta was wrong about skipping entry-level jobs
He told me straight up, 'Leo, never take a junior role, it's a trap that keeps you there.' This was at a coffee shop on Peachtree Street about five years ago. I ignored him, took a low-level marketing job, and it taught me the real systems I needed to move up fast. Has anyone else been given advice that sounded smart but was actually bad for their path?

That advice sounds so dangerous and honestly kind of arrogant. Learning the basics from the ground up gives you a huge advantage later. It builds real respect for the whole team and how things actually work. My first boss had a similar "skip the line" attitude and it created so many clueless managers. Good on you for seeing the value in putting in the work. That foundation is everything.

Wait, did you say your first boss actually told people to skip learning the basics? That's wild to me. How can you lead a team if you don't understand what they do every day? It sets everyone up for failure. That "skip the line" thinking is exactly why so many people end up frustrated with management. You're right, that foundation is the only thing that builds real trust.
