That "follow your passion" advice in my last performance review is total crap
My manager told me to just chase what I love and the money will follow. I work in accounts payable at a manufacturing plant in Toledo. I love woodworking on weekends but turning that into a career would mean 60 hour weeks and no health insurance. Unpopular opinion but sometimes a boring steady job with a pension lets you actually enjoy your hobbies without ruining them. Has anyone else had a boss push this passion stuff when they just want to clock out at 5?

That manager is living in a dream world if they think passion pays the bills on its own... I had the same thing happen to me a few years back. What worked for me was keeping my boring day job and treating my hobby like a side thing I could pick up when I wanted to. I started selling a few pieces I made on weekends just to cover material costs, but I never pushed it to be my main income. Now I still have my steady paycheck and health insurance, and my hobby didn't turn into a stressful second job. The real secret is knowing the difference between something you love and something you have to love to survive.
