Stop putting your expected salary as a number. Put a range instead.
I've been on the hiring side for about 4 years now, mostly for small tech teams in Columbus. Every time someone puts a single number like 75k in the application, it usually ends up hurting them. If it's too high, we skip it. If it's too low, we assume they don't know the market. A range like 70k to 85k shows you did homework and leaves room to negotiate. I've seen candidates lose out purely because they anchored themselves to one figure. Has anyone else noticed this on either side of the table?
