Pro tip: ask to shadow someone in a different department for one day

I did this last month at my insurance office in Toledo and sat with the claims team for 8 hours, and it turns out half the stuff I send them gets reworked because I never knew what they actually needed. Now my files go through clean on the first try. Has anyone else tried asking for a shadow day, and did your boss say yes or act weird about it?
