My manager told me to stop sending weekly project updates, and my promotion came 4 months later

I was sending detailed emails every Friday for over a year with zero feedback. He finally said 'I trust you, stop reporting and start deciding' and that shift in responsibility was the real test. Anyone else get a breakthrough from being told to do less?

Sounds like my boss would just be thrilled to get fewer emails from me! I'm still waiting for the part where they trust me enough to stop checking if I refilled the stapler.

Reminds me of my friend who got told to "take more ownership." Next week his boss asked for three daily updates on the printer paper levels. Guess some managers just can't help themselves, right @theawest?
