My boss told me to "just be more assertive" and it backfired hard
I work at a call center in Phoenix and my manager kept saying I needed to push back on customers more. So I tried it on a guy who was yelling about a billing error, told him he was wrong about the policy. Turns out he was actually right and I had to apologize for 15 minutes while my supervisor watched. Has anyone else gotten terrible vague advice that made things worse?

Wait, he was right and you still had to apologize for 15 minutes? That's insane. Your boss probably felt stupid for giving that terrible advice while you were stuck cleaning up his mess.
