My buddy asked for a raise and they just gave him more work.

Feel that, @kelly.daniel. I once asked for a promotion and they gave me a new title with zero extra pay. Like, cool, I guess I can print "Assistant to the Regional Manager" on my own business cards now. Classic move to just pile on more tasks and call it a reward. Makes you wonder if they even hear the word "raise" or just process it as "volunteers for overtime." Maybe it's just me but that strategy seems to backfire a lot, people just get burnt out and leave.
