Hot take: I used to think networking was just for suits at conferences
I was at a brewery in Portland last week and overheard two guys talking shop, and one offered the other a lead on a project. It clicked that real connections happen anywhere. How do you spot a good chance to network outside of formal events?

My friend got a job offer just chatting with someone at a dog park.

Used to think that was just luck, but now I see how real connections can work.

Watching my own circle, I've seen those "real connections" often just help people who already have a foot in the door. The person at the dog park probably already had the right degree or work history. It feels less like magic and more like who you already know, which leaves a lot of good people out. That casual chat is the last step, not the open door.
