Found out half my coworkers make more than me for the same job

I was looking at some Glassdoor data for my city (Portland) and saw the median salary for my role is $52k. I've been here 4 years and I'm making $47k. How is it that I'm below average when I train new people every couple months? Has anyone else been blindsided by salary data like this?

Honestly $47k for 4 years in Portland seems low even for entry level. Glassdoor often reflects the whole metro area though so that $52k might be pulling from higher paying suburbs or specific industries.

47k in Portland for 4 years experience does feel low, like I've seen baristas pulling more after tips. Hey @matthew864, you make a good point about the metro area skewing those numbers though. I once tried negotiating salary based on Glassdoor and ended up looking foolish when I realized they included the whole state.

Yeah the whole "average" thing hides so much, it's like restaurant ratings where a 4.2 could mean anything.
