A Tuesday in March where my boss just said 'good job' and it felt huge

Last week, I was stuck on a report for three days (it was about Q1 sales, the boring kind). On Tuesday, my manager walked by, pointed at my screen, and said, 'That looks clean, good job.' That was it. No big meeting, no email. But for some reason, that tiny bit of clear, specific praise made the whole grind feel worth it. Has a small comment from a boss ever totally shifted your mood at work?

Honestly, that kind of thing can feel pretty hollow after a while. A quick "good job" is nice, but it doesn't pay the bills or lead to a real raise. Had a boss who was great with casual praise but then denied promotion requests for vague reasons. Felt like the nice words were just a cheap way to keep people quiet and working hard. Real respect shows up in the pay stub or a better title, not just a passing comment.

Ugh, preach. My last boss did that exact same thing.

My buddy Dave got Employee of the Month three times last year. His manager kept saying he was "invaluable" but his last raise was fifty cents.
