A recruiter at a job fair in Columbus told me to cut my resume to one page and it actually worked
I went to a job fair at the Columbus convention center back in March and handed my two page resume to a recruiter at a booth. She looked at it for maybe 10 seconds and said "I am not reading page two." I was pretty annoyed but I went home that night and cut it down to one page, and I got two callbacks the next week after months of nothing. Now I wonder how many other people are out there sending in resumes nobody finishes reading. Did cutting yours down actually make a difference, or was it just luck for me?
Always figured the two page thing was fine since that's what everyone said in college. My resume was two full pages with every job I ever had on it, going back to a summer gig at a pool. Then a guy I know who hires people told me he spends about 6 seconds on each one and never scrolls past the first page. Cut mine to one page, kept only stuff from the last few years, and started getting real responses instead of silence. It stung a little to delete stuff I was proud of, but nobody was reading it anyway, so what was the point.
