A hiring manager quoted one sentence that stuck with me for weeks

I was waiting for an oil change at a shop in Akron and overheard a manager tell a younger tech, "We hire for attitude and train for skill." It made me think about my own shop and how I've passed on good people because they lacked experience. Has anyone else adjusted their hiring approach after hearing something similar?

That line hits different when you've actually passed over someone and wondered about it later. I hired a guy last year with zero experience in property maintenance, but he showed up early, asked good questions, and seemed hungry to learn. Best decision I made all year. The training took a few weeks, but the attitude never needed fixing. It's a gamble that pays off more often than people think.
