Warning: checked my tent stakes after 3 nights in Colorado and 4 were bent at 45 degrees

Went camping near Estes Park last month. Ground was hard packed with rocks, and I used the cheap aluminum stakes that came with the tent. Third morning I pulled one up and it was bent almost in half. Checked the rest, 4 out of 8 were bent. The tent stayed up thanks to the wind side being on the good ones, but one gust could've popped it. I switched to steel stakes with a wider head, 10 bucks for a set of 6, and they went in easier and came out straight. Has anyone else had cheap stakes fail on rocky ground, or do you carry a dedicated stake kit? I'm curious what people actually use for mountain trips vs car camping.
