Used to just use my regular sleeping bag for everything - finally got a proper quilt system last fall
For years I was just using this old Coleman bag I got at a garage sale for like $15. It was heavy, bulky, and I'd wake up freezing if the temp dropped below 50. Last October I finally bought a 20 degree quilt from a smaller company and paired it with a foam pad. The weight difference is insane - my pack went from 8 pounds for sleep gear to around 3. Has anyone else made the switch and noticed a big comfort difference in shoulder season trips?

Did you find the draft issue to be a problem at all with the quilt? I had to mess with my pad straps a bit before I got it dialed in. But yeah once I figured that out I actually sleep way warmer now with less weight. The freedom to move around is a game changer on cold nights.

My first night with the quilt I woke up at 3am with a cold shoulder. Was pretty annoyed. Took me like four trips to figure out the pad straps and how tight to cinch the footbox. Once I got it though, man it changed everything. I sleep way better now on cold nights because I can actually toss and turn without getting tangled. The weight savings is just a bonus at this point.
