Unpopular opinion: I finally tried that 'boil your water filter' trick after mine froze solid in the Adirondacks last weekend...

I thought it would wreck the membrane, but boiling my clogged Sawyer Squeeze for 5 minutes actually restored the flow rate to almost new, so has anyone else had a good result with this or did I just get lucky?

The Sawyer warranty literally says not to boil it because it can melt the inner fibers or warp the housing. I looked it up after a buddy tried this and his filter started leaking at the threads a month later. You might have gotten lucky this one time but doing that repeatedly could ruin the membrane over time. Also boiling strips out the o-ring seal on some models and then you are screwed with a filter that wont seal right. I would rather just backflush mine with clean water or use the syringe than risk turning a $40 filter into a piece of trash. Honestly the flow rate drop is annoying but not worth destroying the filter for a temporary fix.

Wow, that's a legit survival hack I'm filing away.

Just remember to test it at home first, not when you're actually in trouble.
