That $15 tarp from Harbor Freight finally kept my gear dry
I was tired of waking up with a wet sleeping bag after a light rain. Picked up a cheap blue tarp and used paracord to rig it as a fly over my tent. Has anyone else found a cheap fix that actually works better than the expensive gear?

Fifteen bucks? I spent like three times that on a "waterproof" tent footprint that still lets moisture through. Might have to swallow my pride and grab one of those blue tarps.

Heard some ultralight guys swear by them. Good enough for me.

Right? Why are these fancy tent companies charging an arm and a leg for stuff that doesn't even work? I had a similar thing happen with a "heavy duty" footprint that soaked through after one rainy night. Grabbed a blue tarp from the hardware store for ten bucks and it's never let me down. It's not pretty but who cares when you're dry and everything's clean underneath. Function over fashion every time for me now.
