Tarp setup took 4 hours at Glacier because I ignored the wind line
Got to Glacier National Park last weekend and thought I could skip checking the wind direction before rigging my tarp. Spent 4 hours fighting flapping corners and retying knots while my buddy finished his shelter in 20 minutes. Does anyone map the wind line first or do you just trust the trees?

Third time out with my tarp, I did the exact same thing at Olympic. Wind came up at 2am and I spent an hour chasing a loose corner in the dark with a headlamp. I always walk the site now, feel which way the breeze is hitting my face, then line up the low end with that. It takes two minutes and saves you all that frustration. Trusting the trees is how you end up with a flapping mess.
