Serious question, why does everyone overfill their camp stoves?

I watched a guy in Moab last weekend flood his stove with fuel, then panic when the flame shot up a foot high. It's not a car, you only need about an inch in the tank for a 20 minute boil. Has anyone else seen this happen way too often?

Read somewhere that people treat it like a gas tank, they just want it full. Makes no sense when you think about it lol.

Ugh, saw a guy nearly torch his whole picnic table last month.

Man, I don't know @uma_nguyen24, I've been grilling for like 15 years and I've never seen anything close to that. I'm sure it happens, but I think most people are more careful than we give them credit for. I've definitely left a cheap lighter fluid soaked briquette smoldering a little too long near some dry leaves, but it just fizzled out.
