Sat next to a guy at REI who said 'just sleep on the ground'
I was in the REI parking lot in Denver last month waiting for my wife and this dude walks by with a hammock and a tarp. He tells his friend he's been hammock camping for 8 years and never uses a tent or pad. Said the hammock is lighter and he sleeps better than in a bed. I looked at my 12 pound tent setup in the trunk and started questioning everything. Has anyone here actually made the full switch to hammocks and not regretted it?

Read a review where someone said hammocks wreck your back, but @ericb66 might be right about that.

Hammock guy is one stiff back away from begging for a tent.

My buddy has been sleeping in a hammock for like 4 years now and his back is fine. He says it actually helped his lower back pain because you sleep in a more natural curve. I get that some people might not like the feeling but I think it's more about getting the right hang angle than the hammock itself.
