Pro tip: Hanging food bags with a carabiner instead of rope saved my trip
Was up in the Sierras last month and kept fighting with wet knots trying to hang my bear bag. Swapped to a simple carabiner clip on the line and it took like 30 seconds to get it 15 feet up. Anyone else ditch the old knot method for a cleaner system?

Last year I was a diehard knots guy and thought carabiners were just extra weight. Tried one on a wet night in Yosemite and it changed my whole setup.

Oh man, @terryallen you nailed it - same thing happened to me in the Smokies last fall, fighting with soggy rope in the dark while raccoons watched. Soaking wet knots are just a nightmare, and swapping to a simple locking carabiner on the line made hanging the bag actually easy after years of struggling with the old way. Now I won't go on any trip without one clipped onto my bear bag kit.

That "extra weight" comment tho, my titanium carabiner weighs less than my wet rope did.
