My camp stove regulator gave out on day two of a week long trip

Last month I took my old two burner stove up to the Boundary Waters and the regulator started hissing on the second morning. Coffee was half done, and I had to switch to my backup single burner for the rest of the trip. That backup got us through, but it meant cooking every meal one pot at a time, which added about 20 minutes per meal. When I got home I took the stove apart and the diaphragm inside the regulator was cracked, probably from age and cold temps. I found a replacement regulator kit for about $18 and it took me ten minutes to swap out. Has anyone else had a regulator fail mid trip, and did you carry a spare or just rely on a backup stove?
