My $40 Amazon sleeping pad gave out on night two in the Smokies

I was camped near Elkmont last month and woke up on the ground at 3am. The pad slowly deflated and I spent the rest of the night shivering on dirt. Anyone else tried those cheap knockoff pads and had them fail right away?

Cheap Amazon pads are a coin flip for sure. Got a friend who swears by his but I've seen two different ones deflate by midnight. The blue foam mats are bombproof but man they're hard. Still beats waking up with a rock digging into your spine though.

Yeah the "woke up on the ground at 3am" part hit me right in the memory. I had a similar cheap pad from Amazon that lasted exactly one night before it started hissing air. The problem with those is they use really thin material and the seams are glued instead of welded. If you want to save money look for closed cell foam pads like the ones from Walmart or even the blue foam pads. They're not as comfy but they won't leave you on the dirt. Or if you want inflatable check out the Klymit ones on sale, they're not fancy but they actually hold air. That cold dirt wakes you up fast enough to make you rethink that $40 "savings" real quick.
