I finally snapped my favorite tent pole in the dark at 2am

Last weekend at Lake Shasta, I was packing up in the rain and darkness because a storm rolled in early. Pulled the wrong end of my pole hub and one of the fiberglass sections just snapped clean in half. No warning, no crack sound first, just immediate failure. Had to tape it up with duct tape and pray it held for the hike out. Anyone know if those pole repair splices actually work or should I just buy a whole new set?

Man that's just how it goes sometimes isn't it. Everything's fine until it's not, then you're standing in the rain with a broken pole and a roll of duct tape.

Duct tape is a TEMPORARY solution for a PERMANENT problem. I remember one time my buddy tried to fix his boat motor with duct tape and zip ties before a fishing trip. We made it about 200 yards from the dock before the whole thing just fell apart. Sometimes you gotta just accept that the tape ain't gonna hold and go find a better tool.
