I finally bought a cheap headlamp at a Walmart in Flagstaff and it died on night one
Stopped at the Walmart off Route 66 in Flagstaff last April to grab a spare headlamp before a trip into the Coconino. Picked up a $9 one because I figured a light is a light. Two hours into the first night it started flickering, then went dark with fresh batteries in it. Sat there in the black fumbling with my backup for 20 minutes while my buddy just laughed. Now I read reviews on every light before I buy, even the cheap ones. Anyone else get burned by a cheap light on a trip, or am I just unlucky?
Laughed at the buddy part because that would absolutely be me. Nine bucks for a light is basically asking the darkness to humble you. At least you got a story and a new review-reading habit out of it.
