Bought a cheap tarp from Walmart and it shredded during a windstorm at Lake Tahoe

Man, I used to be the guy who thought a tarp is just a tarp, why pay more? But after getting caught in a surprise hailstorm while camping last year, my cheap tarp turned into a totally useless, flapping shred within twenty minutes. The grommets just ripped right through the material, and I spent the whole night trying to hold it down with rocks and coolers. That experience totally changed my mind about buying the bargain stuff. You really do get what you pay for when the wind kicks up around the lake.

Take a chance on the cheap tarp but get the right one for the conditions. I've had a blue $8 Walmart tarp hold up fine through two windy seasons at the campground, just had to tie it down smarter with extra rope through the grommets. Spend ten minutes picking a spot behind a tree or rock wall and you won't have issues even with the budget stuff.
