Update: stopped pulling lens spanners across the front element, started going in from the back
For the first 6 years on my bench in Tulsa I always broke a lens down from the front, filter ring off first, name ring next, straight down to the shutter. Last month a customer brought in a 35mm Summicron with a scratched front ring and I could not get the spanner to bite without dragging it across the glass. So I flipped the whole thing over, pulled the rear group out through the mount, and had the aperture blades clean in about 20 minutes. Now I check the rear access on every lens before I touch the front. Anyone else working mostly from the back side these days, or is that just me getting lazy?
