TIL you can fix a sticky aperture by running the blades dry for 20 minutes
I had a Nikon 50mm f/1.8 with blades that would hang up around f/4, so instead of pulling the glass I just sat there clicking the ring back and forth for 20 minutes straight and it freed right up. The old timer at my local shop in Sacramento told me the oil migrates off the blades over time and dry cycling spreads what's left evenly, which sounds like nonsense but it worked and the lens has been fine for 2 months now. Has anyone else had dry cycling actually hold up long term, or does the sticking always come back once it sits for a while?
