That old repair manual I found at an estate sale last month had a trick for freeing stuck shutter blades I'd never seen before

Three years ago I would've just tossed the lens in the ultrasonic cleaner, but this guy's method using a tiny drop of naphtha and a hair dryer on low got a 1960s Agfa folding camera working again in 15 minutes - has anyone else run into weird one-off fixes that just work better than the standard approach?

Did the naphtha not damage any of the lens coatings?

I mean, is naphtha really that aggressive on modern coatings? @tarajenkins I've used it on a few lenses and never saw any peeling or fogging, but maybe it's only an issue with older stuff or cheaper coatings. Idk, seems like one of those things people overthink unless you're soaking the glass in it.

Kind of doubt it's that big of a deal unless you're just letting it sit on the glass. A quick wipe with naphtha shouldn't hurt modern coatings any more than lens cleaner would.
