Stumbled on a stat that 70% of cameras from the 1960s are still functional

I was reading an old repair manual from 1972 I found at a garage sale, and the preface mentioned that statistic based on a survey of shops. It surprised me how many mechanical cameras from that era are still kicking around if they got basic care. Has anyone else run into numbers like that for a specific decade?

My buddy found his dad's old 1960s Pentax in a damp basement and that thing still clicked away after a little dusting. Makes you wonder why we put up with planned obsolescence now, right?

70% sounds about right since my 1960s camera works fine but my 2010s phone is already dead!
