Showerthought: I polished a lens element with toothpaste and it actually cleared the haze
Had a customer bring in an old 50mm with bad haze, quarter inch of fog behind the front element and he was ready to toss it. I read somewhere that plain white toothpaste works as a super fine polish so I gave it a shot on a junk element first. Took about 15 minutes of light circles with a microfiber cloth, and the haze came off way better than I expected, maybe 80 percent gone. But here is the catch, it also left faint micro swirls that you can only see under a bright light at an angle. I learned it works in a pinch but you have to know when to stop, one extra minute and you are polishing coating off. Curious if any of you have a safer paste or method for bringing back hazy glass without touching the coating.
