I think everyone here is too quick to toss old shutters
I was up at a shop in Portland last month helping a guy go through a box of old Kodak Retina parts, and he pulled out a shutter that looked like it had seen better days. Everyone in the room told him to just scrap it and get a modern replacement. But I spent about 45 minutes cleaning out the old gunk, re-lubing the right spots, and adjusting the spring tension. That shutter came back to life and fired perfectly at every speed. I just don't get why we're so quick to ditch the old stuff when a little patience can fix it. Has anyone else had a shutter you saved that others said was toast?

Does anyone actually consider the environmental cost of tossing old shutters?

Tbh the way we treat old stuff like shutters is part of a bigger problem where nobody thinks about where things end up. People just throw stuff in the trash without a second thought, like it magically disappears. It's the same with old furniture, electronics, even clothes - we act like there's no cost to just tossing it. But every single thing in a landfill adds up over time. Makes you wonder how many old shutters are sitting in dumps right now, slowly rotting.
