Dropped $40 on a "vintage lens repair kit" online and got a screwdriver set my kid could use
Bought one of those all-in-one spanner wrench kits off a site called CameraToolPro back in March because I was tired of hunting for the right tip on a sticky focus ring, and the whole thing bent on the second turn of an old Nikon 50mm. Turns out the metal was soft as butter and the tips were sized for eyeglasses, not camera bodies. My local guy at Marsh's in Dayton showed me his $12 Wiha driver that's outlasted three of those kits. Has anyone actually found a cheap spanner set that holds up, or do I just need to admit the good ones cost real money?
That $12 Wiha at Marsh's is the real deal, I had a set of those cheap Amazon spanner tips strip out on a Canon FD mount back in 2019 and it scarred the ring so bad I had to send it off. The soft metal thing is no joke, they're basically pot metal with a fancy label. Save your money and buy the good stuff once, the cheap kits just cost you more in the end with wrecked glass.
