Cleaning focus screens with denture tablets started as a joke in my garage
Three months ago I had a customer's Canon AE-1 on the bench with a focus screen so gunked up I could barely see the split image, and my usual distilled water and dish soap soak wasn't cutting it. My wife walked through the garage with a box of Polident and said half joking to just drop it in, so I did, one tablet in a cup of warm water for about 10 minutes. The old lube and grime floated right off with barely a touch from a soft brush, no scratches, and I've done maybe 40 screens since with zero comebacks. Just make sure it's the plain unflavored kind and rinse it good after, the mint ones leave a haze. Anyone else got a weird household item that beats the real cleaning stuff?
