Can we talk about the $80 I spent on a tiny rubber mallet for mirror box adjustments
It felt ridiculous at the time, but that soft tap saved a Contax RTS from becoming a very expensive paperweight when the standard hammer I almost used would have shattered the whole assembly, so what's your go-to tool for delicate percussive persuasion?

I used to think a small regular hammer was fine for everything. After a similar close call with a lens mount, I bought a dead blow hammer with plastic faces. The right tool for the job is never a waste of money.

That's so true, @nguyen.elizabeth, it's a lesson that applies to way more than just tools.

Read something similar in a forum about woodworking actually. Guy was using a regular claw hammer to chisel dovetails and nearly took off his thumb. Switched to a Japanese hammer with a beveled edge and said it changed everything. Point is, if you're using the wrong thing, you're not just doing bad work, you're risking your fingers. That close call with the lens mount probably stuck with you for a reason.
