I finally got a straight answer from SSA on my disability back pay
After calling Sacramento's main line 8 times over 3 months, I tried calling my local field office in Fresno directly at 8 AM sharp. The claims specialist there actually pulled up my file and told me my back pay was held up by a missing medical release form from 2022. Has anyone else had better luck going local instead of the 800 number?

Followed the same path myself a few months back. Called the Fresno office after the national line kept telling me "it's in review" for four months. Got a real person on the phone who found a 2019 form I never even signed. Felt like a complete idiot when she read the whole thing to me over the phone and I could hear the smile in her voice. @jesse_craig26, you get it. Nothing like realizing a missing signature has been holding up your life while the national line just keeps saying "please hold.

Used to be of the mindset that the 800 number was the only way to go. Finally got fed up with waiting on hold for hours just to get transferred around. Tried my local office in Oakland last month and had a claims specialist pull up my whole file within 10 minutes. They found a signature that was missing from a 2017 form that the national line never even mentioned. Should have gone local from the start.

Oakland's office actually has a second floor intake window that does walk-in notary services - had a friend who got a missing document stamped and processed right there instead of waiting days for mailing.
