Found out the SGA limit for 2025 is $1,064 a month and nobody at my county office mentioned it
I was poking around the SSA site last Tuesday night and saw the 2025 federal benefit rate for SSI is $967 for one person, but California kicks in a state supplement that brings it to $1,064.25. When I called my county office in Fresno to ask why nobody told me about the state part, the worker just said they only go over it if you ask. The part that got me is the supplement varies by living setup, so folks in a house with no rent pay might get way less, and I had been budgeting off the wrong number for a while. Has anyone here had luck getting their county to spell out the exact supplement amount for their situation?
Ah yes, the old "we only mention free money if you specifically ask about it" policy, very helpful of them. Let me know if you crack the code, cause I'm pretty sure my county's supplement math is written in ancient hieroglyphics.
