Bought a $400 specialized wheelchair ramp last month

Turned out it was way too steep for my house's porch. Had to return it and pay $150 in restocking fees. Anyone else have trouble finding a ramp that actually fits their doorway?

My neighbor's ramp cost nearly 600 bucks and it still didn't line up right with their front door. They ended up having a handyman build a small wooden one for 200 that actually worked. Honestly the prefab ones seem designed for like a perfect flat concrete porch, not the weird angles most houses have. Tbh you're better off measuring your exact doorway height and slope before buying anything.

Hang on, I have to disagree a little here. The prefab ramps are built to standard safety codes for a reason, and a custom wooden ramp from a handyman might not have the right slope or handrail height if it's not inspected. I spent the extra money on a name brand adjustable ramp that lets me change the angle myself, and it was worth every penny once I measured my porch riser height exactly as the instructions said. You can't just eyeball these things and expect a cheap build to last in rain and snow like the engineered ones do.
